The trope of Pashtuns as terrorists in ISPR videos

One important grievance is the showcasing of Pashtuns as terrorists in the videos/anthems released by ISPR. Our culture is presented in militarized terms and our language is shown to be the lingua-franca of terrorists. This is wrong both on factual level and on moral level. Taliban and terrorists in Fata have representation from all the ethnic groups. From Ilyas Kashmiri to Asmatullah Muawaya, many of the daring attacks in the mainstream Pakistan were done by a group known as Punjabi Taliban. I have pointed out few weeks ago that if a certain kind of extremism and terrorism is found in Fata and in other Pashtun lands it is because of the prioritizing of state. For instance the anti-India Jehad and sectarian militancy is rampant in Punjab and it provides recruitment, funding to that kind of militancy because the state has deemed the ground fertile and made the ground fertile for that kind of terrorism. For Talibanization, the Pashtun lands were deemed fit. So, if the majority of cadres of Taliban are Pashtun it is because Talibanization was forced on their land. Pashtun culture has not much to do with the Taliban kind of terrorism.

Second, this portrayal is morally wrong because it makes it a war between the fluent Urdu speaking Pakistan and the Pashtu speaking terrorists. Represtation is always important. It sends unconscious signals which go a long way in creating biases (and ultimately hatred). It is said that Pashtuns have representation in army disproportionate to their population so what will be wrong if the neatly dressed, suave and brilliant young man who is portrayed as the army officer also talks to his mother, his wife in Pashtu? I am not demanding that this be done. I am pointing to the insensitivity in the representation by the army of the country.

If it is a war between ideologies and ways of life then the language and cultures shouldn't be signifiers at all. They should be reduced to a unified form of expression and should not be made to represent one side or the other.
